With a great vision to make higher education affordable to all the socially and economically weaker sections of the society, the Government First Grade College, Dharwad was established on 24 th June 2006 by the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka. Moreover, it is also the policy of the state to take higher education to the common man to bring about regional balance. Though the government gave permission to open Arts, Commerce, Science and Management courses, initially the college introduced Arts and Commerce (BA & B.Com) UG courses only, since it started with less infrastructure facilities. The College began it functioning with a few students in 2006, but it grew in leaps and bounds over the years by creating an ideal and congenial atmosphere on the campus.
The college after its inception is progressing rapidly achieving its heights with the dedicated efforts of qualified, and experienced staff. Many courses in the college aim at enhancing employability by introducing BSc and BBA courses from 2010-11, and equip the students to face the challenges of present job market. Prof. C. P. Bahmanpad, the Principal Grade-I, with his innovative thoughts, ideas and plans, wishes to take the college to glorious heights.
